10’th Visit To Las Vegas From London – Great Trip Report

My wife and I have just returned from our 10’th holiday in Vegas and once again this one seemed better than the last. Well worth the 10 hour flight from London. We stayed as usual at The Orleans and really enjoyed it. Nice rooms and loose slots. Came away $50 up after 8 nights.

On our last visit I spent nearly 90 minutes in line at the Dollar Car Rental desk so this time decided on a small but important change. Booked a car on line with Hertz and arranged to pick it up from The Flamingo. Got a taxi from the airport to The Orleans (did not get long hauled) and the next morning a taxi to The Flamingo. Completed the paperwork and was driving out of the parking garage all within 10 minutes. Will without doubt do that again on our next visit (September I hope). When visiting other casinos I took your tip from some time ago and went straight to the top floor of the parking garage. Always plenty of parking spaces and only 10 seconds extra in the elevator. One of the best tips you have ever given!

For anyone wanting a good breakfast on the west side of the city you can do no better than The Black Bear Diner Las Vegas on West Tropicana just past Jones. Great service and really fantastic bacon. On the subject of eating, can you please tell me Ted why some American men insist on keeping their hats on when they are having a meal? I may be old fashioned but, that is the one thing that really gets me going. Very bad manners in my book.

When will the new International Terminal will be open at the airport? The shed (for want of a better word) that is Terminal 2 at the moment leaves a lot to be desired. If you want something to eat before your 10 hour flight to London you have a choice of Burgers or Pizza and not much more. A Panda Express would be a welcome addition. Love their Orange Chicken.

We are thinking of staying at The South Point on our next visit and would welcome any comments (good or bad) from any of your readers who have stayed there.

Please keep up the good work.I really look forward to getting your newsletter each week and keep them all on file so that I can refer back to them if I need. Looking forward to my next visit in September and maybe a Jackpot is waiting for me (stop laughing).

Regards,

Alex from Colchester UK

Ted Responds:

Renting a car at one of the many Strip hotels is a great way to skip the airport taxes (and just get a car for the time you need it if you won’t be using it the entire trip). I know that The Flamingo has cars on site, ready to go.

Airport construction if progressing nicely but plenty still left to do. I had trouble finding the exact date they expect completion. I agree that the International Termal has been a terrible embarrassment for way too long. It is a joke and a terrible way to welcome those who fly so far to get here.

The South Point is still very new and really nice for the money. Great restaurants, most of which are reasonably priced. Better odds and looser machines because it is a local’s casino. Only real drawback is distance from The Strip (about a 10 minute free shuttle ride or drive if you have a car).

Hope this helps!

We moved off strip a few years ago have stayed at GVR and recently the South Point and have no complaints at all nice rooms good service etc and as you say 5 mins from the strip if you have a car.Last trip for NASCAR had a suite in Aria it was fantastic but is back to off strip in October probably South Point but might try M
