Retiring To Las Vegas, Looking For A Safe Apartment Complex Until We Buy, Advice Wanted!
First off I love reading Access Vegas Insider Vibe. We are a retired couple 62 and loving it. We are in the final stages of making a move to the area in 10 months, we need help in finding a safe apartment complex (not destinations, we fee they are too pricey for our social security & pension checks).
We have been checking on some unit that are run by Camden Properties. If you know anyone who can help us secure a place for a year until we find where we want to buy a condo, we would greatly appreciate it! We had family in the area, but they divorced and moved out of this area, so we are concerned.
Thank you so much, keep up the good work!

Especially in this economy with housing prices not projected to increase much (if at all) in the next 18 months, renting is an excellent way to get a “lay of the land” before you finally decide what are of Las Vegas you’ll want to eventually settle down in.
The one I’d do is come out for an entire week. Rent a car. Spend the week looking at apartments in various parts of town and really get a feel for what is available.
Past that, I unfortunately don’t have much of a handle on retirement housing in Las Vegas. Hopefully, some of our readers do and will post their comments below:

We live in Sun City Anthem, a fabulous retirement community. There are houses here that you can rent while you decide where you want to settle. The community is open so you can drive around all you want and look for signs. Talk to the folks in the community center – they may have a list of what’s available when you come.
My suggestion to this couple is to look in the western area of the valley around Summerlin (ie anything going west past Durango from Lake Mead all the way South to Tropicana). Don’t know what their budget will be but some apartments may be pricey for a two bedroom. I lived at the San Moritz complex off Washington and Buffalo. Nice apartments, good management and reasonable. But it’s up to them. I have looked at units in Camden deveopments and they are all very nice. There are brand new apartment complexes in the northwest part of the Valley (off 215), too. But don’t know how close to the Strip they want to be and that is at least a 30 minute (maybe more at times) drive down there from this area.
Also, it seems this couple is not necessarily looking for “senior apartments” – just apartments!! But again – both for renting AND living, the Summerlin area is the best. ALL (or 99% at least) apt complexes are gated, too, but you still have to be careful.
I would suggest the Henderson area rather than closer to Vegas. I was nervous about moving here from my little town in Idaho but Henderson has been awesome. Very clean and taken care of. We are in the Green Valley area.
Hi,
I live in Sun City Summerlin which I believe is the best retirement location in Las Vegas. There are individual residental units to rent here, as well as some townhouses. It is a golfing community with the lowest HOA rates anywhere. Also we have 24-7 Security Patrols. Please see our website and check us out. We have ambassadors who will meet with you and show you our community and answer all questions and NO they are not realtors but concerned members working to promote our community.

Hello,
I moved here from Trumbull County Ohio last year, I stay at the boulders at lone mountain. I love it ! It has everything I could possibly want or need and I feel safe, I personally haven’t had any issues. The boulders at lone mountain is located at 3450 N. Hualapai Way Las Vegas 89129 and their phone # is 702-562-8622. I found them on Rent.com so you should check them out on there cause I got move in specials on that site. Good Luck.

hi there, we lived in a camden for 12 years and moved out last year as they have really gotten run down and not too picky about who moves in anymore or how many people are in 1 aprtment. did not feel safe outside at night any longer…the rent is not that cheap and you can find better for the $$. we moved to madera, it is an ovation property near red rock. seemed alittle pricey but they have good deals going on. it is very nice and safe!! we are 47 and 50 years old and seem like the young people here!! there are alot of sr.’s in the complex. i agree you should rent a car get a apartment magizine and drive around. we checked out alot of places before moving in here. good luck to you
I certainly can advise you on one property management co. NOT to g
to and thats CON AM. Th apartments are over priced and they will rip you off. We lived in Vegas for 5 years and hated the last 4. Be aware it is a very mean town. Every scammer in the nation is there and trying to take everything you have. We lived on the west side of the strip. Henderson is the best area but very expensive, the same for Summerlin. Just look for something you can afford and go for it. Just look at up keep of the area, that’s a big clue of what the neighbors are like. If it doesn’t look good then DUH!
I thought the the question was for a safe apartment complex.
Pat & Allen,
Ted has the right Idea about come out to check the lay of the land. Prices are at and all time low and projected to stay there for 18 to 24 mos. Which would give you time to find the right area for you.
You may want to consider renting a private condo. You may want to contact a realtor too. We can help with relocation packages also.

Boulder City is ranked No.6 in the USA as a place to retire. I moved to the Lake Mountain Estates in Boulder City from Henderson last year. I was surprised to find numerous advantages. I can drive very fast to the south side of Las Vegas and Henderson. The air is clean, and crime and traffic are minimal. The Boulder City Senior Center is a favorite place for senior citizens to hang out and eat cheap lunch meals. The wildlife such as coyotes, quail, rabbits, roadrunners, and bighorn sheep add amusement.
Ckeck out nearby Henderson NV. Beautiful area close to practically everything including age 55 and over housing.
